Great job, no interview, fast money? That's the scam.
Fake job offers target job seekers where they're most hopeful. The scammer poses as a recruiter from a real company — often over WhatsApp, Telegram or a random text — offers an attractive role with no real interview, then moves to the payoff: a 'processing fee', 'equipment purchase', fake check to deposit, or a request for your bank details, ID or even crypto 'onboarding'. Real recruiters don't ask you to pay to get hired, and real companies don't hire you over chat without an interview.
What the scam looks like
Hi! I'm Sarah, HR Manager at Global Logistics Group. We reviewed your resume and would like to offer you the Remote Admin Assistant role — $38/hr, flexible hours. To complete onboarding, please purchase your company laptop via our vendor portal (we reimburse $250 bonus) or send your account details for direct setup: hr-globallogistics.com/offer

The warning signs
- Offer without an interview — A real hiring process includes interviews. 'We reviewed your resume and you're hired' over chat is a recruiting scam, not recruiting.
- You pay to work — Equipment fees, training kits, background-check payments, 'vendor portals' — no legitimate employer asks you to pay anything to start a job.
- Fake check deposit — You're sent a check to buy supplies, then asked to forward part of it back. The check bounces days later — and the money you forwarded is gone.
- Personal data grab — 'Direct deposit setup' requests your bank details, ID photos or Social Security number before any real contract exists — that's identity theft material.

Check my message — freeWhat to do right now
- Don't send money, buy anything, or share bank or ID details. A legitimate employer never needs payment from you.
- Verify the recruiter independently: find the company's official website, call the number listed there, and ask whether this recruiter and role are real.

- If you deposited a fake check, contact your bank immediately before it bounces. If you shared bank details, tell your bank and monitor your accounts closely.
Common questions
How can I tell if a job offer is real?
Real offers come after real interviews, from a company email address on the company's domain, and never require payment from you. If the pay seems too good, the process too fast, or the contact moves to WhatsApp or Telegram, verify the company independently before sharing anything.
What is the fake check job scam?
The 'employer' sends you a check to buy equipment or supplies, asks you to send back part of it, and the check later bounces. Your bank initially credits the deposit, so the money you forwarded comes out of your own account. Never deposit checks from a 'job' you were offered online.
